Donald Trump has always considered himself the consummate dealmaker – the grand vizier of strategists when it comes to deal-making – the magician who can make the impossible possible.
Thank you, George, for having a clear head on this issue! So many seemingly sane writers have a deadly dangerous blind spot when it comes to Ukraine and Russia.
Precisely what percentage of the minerals are in areas under Russian control, and how much is specifically in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions? The reason I ask should be obvious. Assuming some sort of peace accord can be negotiated, Ukraine will surely be forced to cede those areas (and Crimea) to Russia. Under the circumstances, Trump will probably look like the fool who bought the Brooklyn Bridge. [Come to think of it, I have a great piece of oceanfront real estate in Iowa from Trump to develop...]
Zelensky has only succeeded in ruining his country. He may be well advised not to return from Washington, but who knows what bullshit Ukrainians are being fed by now? The may even see Sir Keir Starmer as a knight in shining armour, and not a shameless liar and cheat, fixer for the establishment, who had a lot to do with Assange's incarceration, and loathed by sane people in the UK.
Just to say expecting a country in the midst of war to hold an election is absurd. Britain, for example didnt hold an election between 1935 and 1945- due to the outbreak of ww2 in 1939.
The Americans did. The Australians did and the English changed PM's due to Chamberlain's somewhat perceived weak leadership. Before you sprout your supposed intellectual prowess know the facts!

I can sell him the Mackinaw Bridge Lenny 😉
I have said from the outset that Trump is weak, stupid and easily manipulated. Foolish for anyone to put their trust in him.

Well, I hope he doesn't pull it off. It is (like everything he does) a gross disrespect, and a "mineral grab."
When you wish upon a star, And President Trump is who you are, Anything you desire will come to you!
That's true, as long as he has the control of a whole country to give away to his benefactors! And residency!

I agree with you, Emma. George, this is an excellent essay.
