The US is embarking on a trade war as we speak and has for years including in Pres Trump's first term. They have economically murdered countries through sanction regimes that have not been lifted. They're still talking about colonising colonies (colonialism ended in the 1800s or 1950s my a$$) like Greenland, hiding it behind "choice" and they have military bases and military encampments around the world that they have not closed but are prepping for war. We are already in World War III but only focus on the Ukraine war, not seeing that that move is about ending one war so they can undermine a country that just happens to be successful, which they resent. Fair, free competitive trade is a fun gimmick and all until it's actually genuinely fair and competitive and the rules can't be quietly rigged to ensure you win at another's expense. And then that's not to mention the boosting of weapons for a fan favourite colonial state that continues to murder people and is once again breaking ceasefire agreement conditions.

Simple. Trump has no real policy, ideology or platform other than self-aggrandizement. His supporters support Trump because they support the brand. The policies are irrelevant. It's a cult of personality.

Yes, he is the quintessential demagog stoking the emotions of his followers. While he has cut off funding for Ukraine, which is good, they send the Israelites all the money and weapons they want for the genocide. Like his buddy DeSantis, he blatantly violates letter and spirit of the First Amendment to punish and censor those who support Palestine.

US diplomacy patently values markets and control of resources over being a good neighbour.

I think you are quite right about Hegseth.....why is he even there? HE is supposedly a rather nasty Christian right wing (Evangelical) supporter?

I fear that the US is going to turn into a religious country. I also think this is what Trump wants.

As for the Russia 'deal' US thinks they are hood winking' Russia into peace whilst hoping to damage their relationship with China.

Russia is far to clever to not see this.

I am interested in this 'deal' if there is one, which I doubt, and Hegseth speaking like this is not doing anyone any favours. The circus goes on.

If the U.S. has other agenda in mind and if war is what the U.S. wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war, we’re ready to fight till the end. We urge the U.S. to stop being domineering and return to the right track of dialogue and cooperation at an early date.

The US hasn't learned how to profit from peace. Until they figure that out and lose the white supremacist ideology, it will continue to start wars.
