What was a densely populated neighbourhood in Nuseirat, Gaza, was a day on the weekend which began like any other, until chaos and terror broke out when a band of marauding murderous IDF Commandos turned Nuseirat into a sea of blood
The people of Nuseirat were doing what they have always done since October 7 – trying to survive, living in avoidance of the bombs and drones, and bullets that would trace them from the sights of snipers and crazed gun totting soldiers.
Nuseriat on the weekend quickly descended into chaos and tragedy Israeli special forces operation left a trail of death and destruction - drawing condemnation from human rights organisations while raising serious questions about the IDF’s conduct and their ongoing actions in the region.
And despite the mainstream media's portrayal of the mission as a heroic rescue, the reality on the ground reveals a different story, one of brutal violence and a staggering civilian toll.
The operation was conducted to rescuing four Israeli hostages – who were not hostages but prisoners of war, combatants - another lie Israel would have the world believing they were innocent civilians.
The Israeli’s are masters at polishing a turd.
The IDF slaughtered 274 Gazans and injured 700 others, according to Palestinian health authorities, and among the dead were scores of civilians - men women and children, of which the majority killed were children.
Israel’s assertion most of the casualties were militants is another lie – yet the media continues to pedal the lie that does little to mask the devastating impact on innocent lives.
Witnesses in Nuseirat described scenes of chaos and terror. One of the survivors, Amal Abu Nada, a schoolteacher, recounted the horror as bombs rained down around her home. “It was like the sky was falling,” she said. “There was smoke and fire everywhere, and the sound of explosions was deafening. We didn’t know where to run.”
Abu Nada’s story is echoed by many others in the area and reinforces the indiscriminate nature of the violence that engulfed the neighbourhood.
Condemning the slaughter and Israel’s war crime is Amnesty International calling for an immediate investigation into the conduct of the IDF, emphasising the need to protect civilian lives in war zones. “The scale of civilian casualties in this operation is deeply concerning,” said Philip Luther, Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Research and Advocacy Director. “We must ensure international humanitarian law is upheld and necessary measures are taken to protect civilians.”
The operation's aftermath revealed the extent of the devastation. Entire families were wiped out, homes reduced to rubble, and the infrastructure of Nuseirat severely damaged.
Among those killed was Abeer Rajabi, a mother of four, who was sheltering in her home with her children when an airstrike hit. Her husband, Mahmoud Rajabi, spoke through tears about the loss of his family. “They were just children, innocent children,” he said. “What crime did they commit to deserve this?”
The IDF's tactics, of heavy shelling, air strikes, and the use of drones, have come under intense scrutiny. Reports from the scene indicate that civilian areas were targeted, resulting in widespread destruction and loss of life. UNRWA reported significant damage to its facilities, including schools and medical centres, further compounding Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.
Mainstream media’s portrayal of the operation as a tactical success fails to account for the humanitarian disaster it caused. Outlets like Sky News and The Australian have celebrated the mission, emphasising the rescue of the hostages while downplaying or ignoring the civilian casualties and the broader context of the conflict. Their coverage contributes to a skewed narrative that dehumanises Palestinians and justifies ongoing military actions.
What took place in Nuseirat forms part of a broader pattern of behaviour by the IDF, marked by repeated violations of international law and human rights. Over the years, numerous reports have documented the systematic targeting of civilian infrastructure, including homes, schools, and hospitals, by Israeli forces.
These actions by the IDF constitute clear violations of international law and amount to war crimes. Yet, the international community has largely failed to hold Israel accountable, allowing these abuses to continue with impunity.
During the 2014 Gaza War, also known as Operation Protective Edge, the UN Human Rights Council reported extensive violations of international law by Israeli forces. It included targeting residential buildings, schools, and hospitals, leading to high civilian casualties. The report highlighted instances where entire families were killed in their homes, drawing parallels to the recent operation in Nuseirat.
The international community must recognise the suffering of the Palestinian people and hold Israel accountable for its actions – and that includes calling for an end to the blockade, demanding adherence to international law, and ensuring any future military operations prioritise the protection of civilian lives.
Furthermore, the media is crucial in presenting a balanced and accurate portrayal of the conflict, highlighting the human cost of the violence and giving voice to the victims.
For the people of Nuseirat, loss of life, destruction of homes, and pervasive fear and trauma will linger on forever. Justice and accountability need to be demanded for the people of Gaza and all those affected by the IDF’s criminality.
The blockade of Gaza, now in its 17th year, has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, restricting, the movement of people and goods, and severely impacting the livelihoods and living conditions of the population. According to the WHO, the blockade has led to critical shortages of medical supplies and hindered access to essential healthcare services, contributing to the suffering of the civilian population.
The resilience and strength of the Palestinian people is testament to their enduring spirit. The global community must support the Palestinians in their struggle and ensure there are rights protected.
