If the International Court of Justice (ICJ) were to ever feel as though it’s been mocked, then Benjamin Netanyahu’s invitation by the US to address both Houses is the time that feeling of irrelevance would be at its most prevalent.
There are many things that could be said about the US’s arrogance and hubris that would fall on deaf ears, however, thumbing its nose at the ICJ is indicative of its hegemonic mentality. America’s brashness is more about the world’s obsequiousness and failing to hold it to account than about genuine US superiority.
The world is much to blame for its creation of a geopolitical Frankenstein. Staging coups, deposing democratically elected governments, fomenting wars are all testament to that.
What’s now seen as an unprecedented move globally has also shocked the international community - the US’s invitation to Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress, despite an outstanding arrest warrant for him issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), signals its disregard for anything lawful. The US’s decision has reignited fierce debate about American hegemony and its complicity in international conflicts and genocide.
The ICC's decision to pursue charges against Netanyahu isn’t only a significant moment in international justice, it aims to hold the powerful accountable. And as much as it might be the ICJ’s intent, the US sees things differently through its lens of hubris.
Netanyahu’s invitation comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with ongoing genocide enacted by Israeli forces toward Palestinians. America’s staunch support of Israel continues to embolden Israel’s genocidal mania, and the humanitarian crisis throughout the region.
Despite the ICC's charges, the US’s invitation to address Congress blatantly disregards international law and reinforces the US's role in perpetuating global conflicts with a disregard for human rights.
The US can no longer claim it’s a country that stands for the rights of the individual and humanity – their relentless hunt of Julian Assange is one example of the US’s hegemonistic abuse and how it is prepared to abuse its power because it thinks and knows it can.
That abuse must stop. It’s another form or terrorism the US administers and creates and the world must recognise and condemn – pandering to the Americans has almost become an art form for some countries.
Many leaders globally have not only expressed concern over the US’s invitation to Netanyahu, but some have also called for diplomatic relations to be severed while relations with the EU are now strained.
A growing chorus throughout the Middle East have voiced their discontent with multiple Arab nations viewing the invitation as a continuation of the US’s complicity in Israel’s genocide. Furthermore, the Arab League has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the US's actions.
Central to the madness is America’s hegemony. For decades, it’s positioned itself as ‘the’ leading superpower to influence and shape international policies and decisions. It’s a form of dominance not only unwelcomed by many countries but viewed as an imposition on their sovereignty.
The Netanyahu invitation reinforces the view the US like it always has continues to operate above international law, with its double standards characterising its foreign policy. And while the backlash against its decision has led to renewed calls for a more balanced multipolar world order, the time has come to reject American hegemony and hold all nations, including the US, accountable for their actions.
There has to be an emphasis on a stronger international legal system that operates independently of political pressure regardless of power or influence.
Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch both issued statements condemning the US's invitation to Netanyahu, calling for greater adherence to international law, arguing the US has not only undermined the ICC but set a dangerous precedent for other countries to ignore international justice mechanisms.
Internally within the US, the invitation to Netanyahu has sparked debate with lawmakers, activists, and the American public divided on the issue - with many arguing the US's strong alliance with Israel is crucial for maintaining stability in the region and inviting Netanyahu is a diplomatic necessity. However, other countries see it as immoral and a betrayal of the values the US claims to uphold.
Prominent political figures, including several members of Congress, have called for the US to respect international law and reconsider its stance on Israel - demanding a reassessment of American foreign policy and a move towards an equitable international system.
The invitation to address Congress, despite the ICC's arrest warrant, exposes deep cracks within the international order - it highlights the ongoing struggle between powerful nations and international justice - reigniting the debate about American hegemony.
Amidst the controversy, a call for the rejection of American hegemony grows louder. Advocates for international justice hope the movement acts as a catalyst for change, pushing the world towards a more balanced and accountable system where no country is above the law.
The US behaves like it does because the world allows it to. It’s time the international community rejects US hegemonistic hubris and condemns it to a position of irrelevance, stripping it of its unwarranted influence ensuring global policies aren’t dictated by imperialistic ambitions but shaped by a commitment to the sovereignty of all nations.
Mario, to quote the adage from "little things big things grow" sees the events of current geopolitical issues coming together that will see the world reach a tipping point. When they culminate and intersect it will be a fateful day for humanity. The time has come for every American to bring this madness to a halt. If they don't, then God help humanity!
Excellent post! That the US is completely aligned with the Zionist agenda, we knew it long ago. This invitation to the US Congress, occurring after the recommendations of the ICJ, responds to several objectives: «reassure» the American public opinion and, especially the «occult» powers that guide the US middle- East policy and the complete subjugation of the US administration to the Zionist Overlord. It is also a thinly veiled threat to the ICJ with deep contempt. It is, finally, a message to the partners and valets of the Hegemon likely to follow and apply the recommandations of the ICJ.
The US, for a long time, has chosen the camp of the international «rogue» hovering very high above international legality and morality. It is up to the American people to become aware of it and to draw the consequences, otherwise, the whole of humanity risks paying the price…
