It seems whenever former Fox News host Tucker Carlson sparks controversy, he becomes a focal point of debate.
Carlson is a rare diamond, a truth-teller, a journalist of integrity who is not averse to holding government and those in power accountable.
In Moscow earlier this week, Carlson announced he was interviewing Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and the world went crazy.
If you turned on any news channel, you’d have witnessed comical but concerning scenes hysteria sweeping across the globe – suggesting everyone should be fearful of the prevailing insanity.
The interview, which took place on February 6, was released two days later, showcasing an overwhelming level of paranoia.
But why are the establishment, leaders of Europe, the US, and the corporate media so vehemently against the Putin interview?
Fair-minded, rational people are concerned about the treatment and demonization of Carlson.
The Biden administration even considered blocking Carlson’s travel plans to Moscow.
And the usual daily White House press briefing all but confirmed their intentions.
White House spokeswoman Corrine Jean-Pierre, when asked if the rumours were true, refused to comment.
Speculation now suggests rather than trying to stop Carlson’s travel plans, the US may have requested Ukraine put Carlson on a hit list - implying there is more than one way to skin a cat.
Every journalist should be concerned about their right to freedom of speech and being sold out by their government, as seen with Gonzalo Lira and Julian Assange by the US and Australian governments, or becoming a target of the deep state.
Journalism is no longer the profession it once was, and the freedom of the press now appears to be but a myth.
Carlson is now seen as an enemy of Ukraine, targeted by US vengeance similar to Assange and Gonzalez Lira.
Assange awaits his fate after 15 years of incarceration, the Ukrainians determined Lira’s fate earlier this year, when the US allegedly allowed an American to die at the hands of the Ukrainian government, and Carlson is a man potentially hunted by another state, with his fate now uncertain.
All three hunted for telling the truth and doing their jobs.
Threats of sanctions and imposing travel bans by European leaders, along with slurs of traitor and treason by the establishment and corporate media, are attempts to cancel Carlson.
But why the paranoia? The answer lies in the fear of exposure.
Carlson is an outstanding journalist, whose objectivity and fairness are why the Kremlin greenlighted the interview.
And when Carlson announced his coup, panic surged through the establishment and the deep state.
Leaders who propagandised the world into believing a distorted reality knew Putin would aim to set the record straight – debunking the lies propagated by the West.
The interview began not as most interviews would; it took an extraordinary but compelling twist early on.
To Putin, it was important that Carlson, and the world, understand the history of Russia and Ukraine relations and how they were founded.
Carlson began by asking Putin to explain why he thought the US would launch a surprise attack on Russia.
Putin asserted he never said that and asked Carlson if this was a talk show or if he was there to have an honest conversation.
Putin’s history lesson set the backdrop to the interview.
The Russian leader provided a comprehensive explanation for the breakdown of US-Russia relations, expressing frustration with the West's refusal to integrate Russia into NATO—a decision he attributed to the United States' aversion to Russia.
He also discussed the CIA's considerable influence over US administrations, the persistent drive for conflict by America and Europe, and the ways in which Europeans and Americans are misled to finance the conflict in Ukraine, drawing Russia towards a confrontation with NATO.
Additionally, Putin identified the parties responsible for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline explosion, highlighted the existence of an alternative gas pipeline that Germany has not activated—thus intentionally limiting energy supplies to Europeans and Germans—and noted Germany's significant role as a primary provider of military aid and financial support to Ukraine.
No matter how the US and West have portrayed Putin as a madman, dictator, expansionist leader, brutal thug – Carlson’s interview showed a different side – one that contradicted the demonisation by the West and how they characterised Putin.
Putin was rational, coherent, lucid, and intelligent, a man for establishing relationships with the West, a leader more for peace and not a warmonger, a leader for the Russian people and a man considerate of achieving peace and not wanting for the destruction of humanity – everything US President Joe Biden isn’t.
The many millions globally who watched the interview witnessed a different Putin and judged for themselves how the West has been lying.
Sanctioning Carlson or any journalist for conducting an interview with a controversial figure sets a dangerous precedent that directly threatens the core principles of journalism.
Imposing sanctions on Carlson for his interview with Putin signals a troubling readiness by some to penalize media figures for engaging with individuals considered controversial by certain standards.
If sanctions against Carlson are deemed justifiable, it could encourage other powerful entities to further limit journalistic freedom, dictating which narratives are acceptable and which voices can be heard.
If carried out and go unchallenged, it could mark the beginning of the end of freedoms of speech and the press as we know them.
