Clashes in Sydney during demonstrations over Isaac Herzog’s visit have ignited claims that Australia demands freedoms internationally it is less willing to protect domestically.
Thank you for your work as always, Mr. Hazim. It's informative to me to learn through your writing how things are going in Australia as someone far away. This seems like a crucial time for the administration in Canberra to show what it is really about, if that means defending civil liberties and the right to peaceful protest involvement in conflict abroad, or the crackdown/silencing of any forms of legitimate criticism/dissent and slide towards increasing authoritarianism.
great point feral. It's ironic that in the nation he governs, he has the opposite feeling and sentiment towards legitimate, peaceful protesters as he would regarding those in another nation who the Empire dislikes. The double standards are appallingly stark and shameful
The police mentality is the same everywhere. << Police have said directions were given and not followed, and officers acted in response to safety concerns. They reject claims of indiscriminate force. >>
In the US, we have heard similar crap after the beating of Rodney King, the murder of George Floyd, and other such frightful incidents. Moreover, it is a VERY rare occasion when the police will actually admit that one of their own did anything wrong...
Well said. It is disturbing how our 'leaders' now resort to authoritarianism whenever it suits them. The absurdly draconian and economically and socially damaging response to Covid-19 provided the template for their current actions.
I never realised the NSW Premier was such an odious, cretinous tyrant. It makes me glad I don't live there, especially seeing the brutal treatment meted out to peaceful protesters with his endorsement. The footage speaks for itself. NSW police have always had a well-deserved reputation for corruption and thuggery. Evidently old habits die hard. I cant't say I've lost any respect for them because I never had any in first place. The police where I live have a very different culture and would never behave like that.
Australia is simply a puppet regime. No more, no less. Don't believe me? Pretend this were happening in a country that the Americans don't like.
I have said before, Albanese and the entire Australian political class have no priority, other than pleasing the Americans, and the Americans sure have a thing for Israel.
well stated Feral, it is sad but true, it seems the current administration in Canberra's top priority is making sure they have the approval of, and act in accordance with, Washington's preferred policies. They current administration in Washington definitely has that feeling, agreed.
"The line between maintaining safety and appearing intolerant of dissent is a fine one." Actually, I'm not seeing where the risk to safety was in the protest. Whose safety? Protests, unless they commit clear violence against people, are not only safe, but they increase safety by expressing the needs of the people.
There’s no difference between Trump’s America and Minns’ New South Wales.
Not really. One is the master, the other the little bitch.
Both are Netanyahu's sniveling bitches.
You know what the world can count on? A THUG, is a THUG, is a THUG, worldwide. The kangaroo fucking NSW THUGs have just reinforced that.

Pretend that these protests and the police reaction were happening in a country that the Empire doesn't like.
Albanese would be gnashing his teeth and rending his garments in pity for the protesters.

I wish I were wrong.
I mean no disrespect, but I wish you were incorrect about this also
None taken.
We are not even a regime. Australia is a vassal of other countries. We are not a soverign nation, and never will be.
Our ultimate ruler is King Charles.
Sadly I have to concur……
